Flathead Valley Community College, also known as FVCC, is a public community college found in Kalispell, in the state of Montana. The school was established in 1967. FVCC is one of just three colleges in the state of Montana that is not under the control of the Montana State University System, the University of Montana and the state tribal college system. Among the most notable prorams offered by the school includes the Associate in Arts degree for drug abuse counseling, Associate in Science degree for nursing, and Associate of Applied Science degree in over 20 different courses.
The school first started in 1967, when the residents of Flathead County passed a vote to establish a community college. The school opened its first class the same year with just over 600 students. During the first few months, the school held classes in church basements, high schools, and garages all over downtown, The next year, the school purchased its own facilities and classes were extended to daytime as well.
The main campus of FVCC is full or scenic outdoors. The campus is found between the Flathead Lake, known as the western country’s biggest freshwater lake, and the Rocky Mountains. There are also several ski and summer resorts, with more than 1,000 miles of trails and endless outlets for several outdoor activities including Camping, Biking, Hiking, Water and downhill skiing, Snowboarding, Fishing and Canoeing & kayaking.
The college also offers several courses and degrees including Associate of Arts or AAs, Associate of Science or AS, Associate of Applied Science or AASS, and Certificate of Applied Science or CAS. The school also awards several certificates and licensure training, Among the programs offered by the school includes Agriculture, Natural Resources & Forestry, Arts, Business, Economics and Technology, Education, Health Care, Human Services, Social Sciences and Humanities, Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Engineering, and Technical Careers.
